Genetics / Screens - Collaboration and Release Policy

Screens and expression strategies : The primary goal of the former is to identify new migration related genes and proteins for the migration community. The details of these screens will appear in publications that will be cited on this website and/or the protocols and procedures sections on this website. These screens are being done by individuals or small groups of investigators (the Development Team) from either inside or outside the Consortium. Their role is to design and execute the screen. The results of the screens will be posted on this website within 6 weeks of their validation, i.e., multiple repeats of the screen and cloning of the cDNA, if appropriate, unless they are being submitted for publication, which will occur within 6 months of validation. These data will be made available simultaneously to both the public and Consortium members outside the Development Team on this website. No one outside the Development Team can work on these molecules prior to public distribution. Once any gene is posted on the website, anyone inside or outside of the Consortium can study them. Each graduate student or postdoc working on a screen is allowed to withhold the posting of one gene for up to 6 months following validation. Once public, it will be posted on the website with an asterisk and a note that it is under study. The study of these genes will be restricted to these people prior to public release. When cDNAs are involved, they will be made publicly available.

The screening of the chemical and siRNAi libraries is being done in collaboration between the Geiger and Brugge laboratories using Dharmacon siRNA SMART pools . The results of the screen and the sequence of the siRNAs used will be posted on this website within 6 weeks of validation. The siRNAs are available through Dharmacon.

If you are interested in working on any of the genes or reagents being generated by the Consortium, please feel free to contact us about their use. If you have material that would benefit from our screens, a limited number of collaborative screens may be feasible if the investigators agree to publish the results of the screen on the web site 6 weeks after validation of the result. In addition, if you are doing a migration-related screen and wish us to assist in publicizing it to the scientific community, we will list the results on our website. If you are developing a screen, please contact us so that we can coordinate to avoid overlap or duplication of efforts.
