Installing BlastPro on a local computer ************************* System Requirements: 1. Windows operating system 2. Apache Server must be running (download and install from: http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi) 3. Perl (download and install from: http://www.activestate.com/Products/Download/Download.plex?id=ActivePerl) ************************* Installing Apache Server: 1. Open a web browser and type the following address: "http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi". 2. Click on "Other Files" in the section marked "the best available version" of Apache server. 3. Scroll down past the files directory and click on "binaries/win32/" in the current releases section. 4. Click on the lastest version of the MSI Installer Package. 5. Click run and follow the instructions to install Apache server. Hints for entering Server Information: a) For example, assume your email is "username@univ.edu" b) Your Network domain is "univ.edu" c) Your server name can be "username.univ.edu", or pick anything you want for "username" d) Your Administrator email can be "username@univ.edu" e) Recommended - Leave "for all Users, on Port 80..." selected ************************* Installing Perl: 1. Open a web browser and type the following address: "http://www.activestate.com/Products/Download/Download.plex?id=ActivePerl". 2. Under Windows, click on the MSI Installer Package. 3. Click Run and follow on-screen instructions. ************************* BlastPro Setup: 1. Download Blastpro.zip from the Cell Migration Consortium website. 2. Unzip Blastpro.zip using Winzip. 3. The unzipped file contains a folder, named Blastpro, which contains three sub-folders (blast, images, and samples) and three perl executable files (Blastpro, Blastpro_interface, and query_file_instruction). 4. Move the images and samples folders to the htdocs directory of Apache server, for example: "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\images". 5. Move the whole Blastpro folder to the cgi-bin fold of the Apache server, for example: "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\cgi-bin\Blastpro". 6. Move your local database files, in fasta format, into the same directory as stand-alone blast, for example: "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\cgi-bin\Blastpro\blast\sampledata.fasta" ************************* Running BlastPro: 1. Open a web browser and type the following address: "http://localhost/cgi-bin/Blastpro/Blastpro_interface.pl". ************************* Important Notes: 1. All "database" files must be saved in .fasta format in the same directory as stand-alone blast: "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\cgi-bin\Blastpro\blast\..." 2.
