Angiogenesis: A less bitter pill
Standfirst
Conjugating the angiogenesis inhibitor TNP-470 to an amphiphilic polymer results in its enclosure into micelles, which enables it to retain its tumour-suppressor properties while being orally delivered, thus overcoming hurdles associated with toxicity and drug administration.
Nature Reviews Cancer 8, 567 (2008)doi:10.1038/nrc2463

Angiogenesis: Mini mediator of metastasis suppression
Standfirst
Chemotherapeutic drug-containing nanoparticles targeted at integrin alphavbeta3 can suppress the development of tumour metastases by affecting angiogenesis.
Nature Reviews Cancer 8, 570 - 571 (2008)doi:10.1038/nrc2453

Metastasis: Delivering help
Standfirst
Instigator tumours secrete osteopontin, which activates bone-marrow cells causing them to incorporate into the stroma of distant, once-indolent tumours, thus promoting their growth and dissemination.
Nature Reviews Cancer 8, 572 - 573 (2008)doi:10.1038/nrc2447
